KLEEN KOTE Asphalt
Equipment, Paver and Truck Instructions
- Instructions for Using
KLEEN KOTE on Asphalt Equipment, Pavers & Trucks
- Mix Ratio 8 to 1 --
Dump Box Release
- Mix Ratio 8
to 1 thru 11 to 1 -- Equipment
- Mix Ratio 50 to 1 --
Roller Water
- Use KLEEN KOTE to keep asphalt from
sticking to tools, equipment and trucks. It can also be used in the
water tanks of rollers at 50 to 1. This will reduce the amount of water
needed to prevent stickage and will also leave a coating on the drum
allowing the operator to get off the pavement if the water should run
out.
- Tips for Use
- Remove all previously used release
agents from the equipment prior to applying KLEEN KOTE. This will
eliminate any adverse reaction between KLEEN KOTE and any former
release agents.
- For best results, spray the entire
paver, truck or other equipment with KLEEN KOTE the night before you
pave.
- If you can’t apply the product
the night before your next pave, you can apply the product just prior
to use. However, the KLEEN KOTE must turn from white to clear after it
is sprayed on the equipment before you start paving.
- KLEEN KOTE deposits a thin film of
barrier protection. Do not remove the asphalt build-up from the paver
or other equipment during the paving process. This will remove the
applied KLEEN KOTE, causing the fresh layer of asphalt to stick to the
paver. KLEEN KOTE must be re-applied to all areas of the paver where
asphalt was removed and can be re-applied at any time during the paving
process.
- The paver should be sprayed every
night regardless of whether or not you clean the machine prior to its
next use.
- KLEEN KOTE should be sprayed on the
machine after every wash or job to help prevent rust will the machine
is not being used.
- Instructions
- Step 1 – Determine Your Mix Ratio
- Please see the above starting mix
ratios. Ratios can be adjusted based upon your results. They may be
adjusted up or down in one part increments to achieve optimum results.
- NOTE: The more concentrate
you add the thicker and more protective KLEEN KOTE will be.
- Step 2 – Mixing
- Using a clean container, add
KLEEN KOTE and water to achieve the recommended ratio for your
application. Adding KLEEN KOTE to water and then adding more water will
eliminate the need for mixing. Do NOT mix with diesel, fuels or oils.
Do NOT mix with other release agents.
- Step 3 – Application
- KLEEN KOTE may be applied at any
time. For best results, the application surface should be cleaned prior
to application. Remove all other release agents before applying KLEEN
KOTE.
- Step 4 – Spraying
- Spray on and then let change from
white to clear before using the treated equipment. If KLEEN KOTE
freezes on the surface you are treating, it will still work. Reapply
after every use.
- Typical Coverage Rates
- 1 gallon of mixed KLEEN KOTE will
cover approx. 2000 square feet, depending on the surface type. Spray on
for best performance and ease of application.
- Notes
- Reapply KLEEN KOTE every time the
machine is cleaned. This will protect the machine from corrosion when
it is not in use and it will be ready for the next time you pave.
- While the feeder track is running,
apply KLEEN KOTE to the edges of the feeder track to prevent lock up in
cool weather.
- You do not have to wait for the paver
to dry after power washing it. KLEEN KOTE may be applied directly to a
wet paver.
- Do not reapply KLEEN KOTE in the
morning if you have already sprayed the machine the night before. By
spraying the paver again, you will weaken the grip of the first
application of KLEEN KOTE.
- Once KLEEN KOTE has changed from
white to clear, it will NOT wash off during rain. However, KLEEN KOTE
can NOT be applied during rain because it will rinse off before the
product changes from white to clear.
- In freezing weather, mix product as
needed. Concentrate will not freeze however premix may freeze.

KLEEN KOTE General
Vibration Facts
- General Vibration Facts
- What Are Some Common
Misconceptions Regarding Vibration?
- The vibration that you use should be
dictated by the type of work that you are performing.
- “I need the BIGGEST vibrator I
can get. I want to MOVE the mud!”
- "That’s the model my Dad and
Grand Dad use to use. That will work GREAT!”
- “HIGH FREQUENCY…That sounds high
tech. It MUST work better!”
- Why Do We Use Vibration?
- To increase consolidation
- To increase productivity
- To reduce the amount of cement needed
to increase strength
- To increase the density of the
surface and seal the concrete
- To give a beautiful finish
- The correct answer is…To increase
consolidation.
- The Rules of Vibration
- How big of a vibrator do I need?
- In general, the area of influence
for internal vibrators is 10 TIMES the diameter of the vibrator head.
- However, it is best to
observe the area of influence on the surface of the concrete you are
vibrating to help determine the vibrators area of influence.
- Good vibration always requires
overlapping areas of energy.
- Always pick the right size
vibrator for the job.
- How long should I leave the vibrator
ON or in one place?
- Generally speaking, if the
concrete slump is approximately 2 inches, then the vibrator needs
approximately 25 seconds to reach the maximum area of influence. If the
slump is approximately 6 inches, then the vibrator needs approximately
10 seconds to reach its maximum area of influence.
- Keeping the vibration spacing and
timing consistent will produce the best results.
- Remember you need OVERLAPPING
areas of influence.
- How should I vibrate the concrete
when pouring in lifts?
- When concrete is poured in lifts,
always vibrate each lift.
- Always penetrate approximately 4
to 6 inches INTO any cold joint. This is done to bind the joints
together.
- Do NOT always leave internal OR
external vibrators running while you are pouring. They should be used
intermittently as you pour your concrete. Similar rules apply to
external vibration regarding the area of influence and timing.
- Are there any other tips for
vibration?
- Do NOT let the vibrator head hit
the sides of the forming system; this action will make the concrete
stick to the forms. Always try to keep the vibrator in the center of
the forms or at least 1 to 2 inches from any form face or bottom.
- Be sure to insert the vibrator
completely into the concrete. In general, the vibration extends
laterally from the vibrator head NOT vertically.
- Remove the vibrator slowly,
allowing the concrete to fill in behind it.
- Over vibration can be just as bad
as under vibration. Over vibration can cause the aggregate to settle in
the pour, weakening the concrete.
- This information is
provided as a general guide to vibration and is not a substitute for
proper training. If you have any questions regarding this sheet please
feel free to contact Customer Support by telephone: 800.801.7832 –
847.639.7272 or via email: support@4progressive.com.

- DONT’s
- Do NOT mix KLEEN KOTE
with anything but water.
- Do NOT allow KLEEN
KOTE to come in contact with acids, soaps and other release
agents because they are NOT compatible.
- Do NOT remove concrete from the
truck during the delivery process or you will remove the applied KLEEN
KOTE, causing the fresh layers of concrete to stick to the truck.
KLEEN KOTE must be applied to all areas of the truck where
concrete was removed.
- Do NOT apply KLEEN
KOTE to windows, as it may cause streaking. You will need to
use window cleaner to remove it.
- DO’s
- Do mix KLEEN KOTE in a clean
container.
- Do be sure to rinse truck of all
chemicals after washing.
- Do wash the truck with water only
when possible. If it is necessary to wash the truck with soap and water
you will need to reapply KLEEN KOTE to the whole truck again.
- Do apply KLEEN KOTE to areas of
heavy concrete contact after dumping every load.
- Do apply KLEEN KOTE to under
carriage of truck at least once per week.
- Trucks can be cleaned with acid to
remove as much of the hardened concrete as possible before applying
KLEEN KOTE. If you acid wash the truck you must wash the
truck with soap and water before applying KLEEN KOTE. This is done to
ensure the acid residue is removed from the truck.
- Even if the truck is not acid washed
prior to applying KLEEN KOTE, try to wash truck with soap
and water before applying KLEEN KOTE for the first time.
This is done to remove all of the acids and other chemicals that have
built up on the trucks from past cleanings and other applications. Be
sure to rinse all of the soap off of the truck.
- KLEEN KOTE is best applied with a
spray applicator. Apply KLEEN KOTE to sections of the truck that will
accumulate heavier amounts of concrete...let the product turn from
white to clear and it is ready to use.
- If you would like to shine the cab,
drum or any area that is not subjected to heavy amounts of concrete,
you may spray KLEEN KOTE onto small sections of the truck at
a time. Before the product turns clear, rub lightly with a damp rag
until the film is barely visible. Then buff with a clean, dry towel.
You must not wipe the KLEEN KOTE off of any parts from the ring back
for rear discharge and from the ring forward for front discharge (or
any parts that may accumulate large amounts of concrete). Wiping in
will reduce the product’s ability to release concrete.
- On severely sun dried or acid washed
paint you may need to apply KLEEN KOTE and allow it to soak in more
than once. This will help to revitalize the color of the paint.
- Instructions
- Step 1 – Determine Your Mix Ratio
- Please see the above starting mix
ratios. Ratios can be adjusted based upon your results. They may be
adjusted up or down in one part increments to achieve optimum results.
- NOTE: The more
concentrate you add the thicker and more protective KLEEN
KOTE will be.
- Step 2 – Mixing
- Using a clean container, add
KLEEN KOTE and water to achieve the recommended ratio for
your application. Adding KLEEN KOTE to water and then adding
more water will eliminate the need for mixing. Do NOT mix with diesel,
fuels or oils. Do NOT mix with other release agents.
- Step 3 – Application
- KLEEN KOTE may be
applied at any time. For best results, the application surface should
be clean prior to use. Remove all other release agents before applying
KLEEN KOTE.
- For best results, the hopper
and chute should be rinsed and KLEEN KOTE should be
reapplied to that portion of the truck after every load. The majority
of the truck may be done once a week or as cleaning is necessary.
- Step 4 – Spraying
- Spray on and then let change from
white to clear before using treated equipment. If KLEEN KOTE
freezes on the surface you are treating, it will still work. Reapply
after each use.
- Notes
- Areas that can be
polished:
- Cab, drum, wheels and any part of
the truck not subjected to heavy concrete build-up.
- Areas that should not
be polished:
- Any area from the ring back on
rear discharge including, but not limited to: ring, hopper, chute and
tags. For front discharge - Any area from the ring forward including,
but not limited to: ring, hopper, chute, top of the cab, control boxes
and the front bumper. The undercarriage can also be sprayed to help
prevent mud from sticking and corrosion. Wheels may be sprayed and left
or they may be polished, depending upon your personal preference. Any
time KLEEN KOTE is sprayed and left to go clear, it will collect more
dust but will provide greater protection.
- In freezing weather, mix product
as needed. Concentrate will not freeze however premix may freeze.

KLEEN KOTE Concrete
Pumping and Belt Trucks
- Instructions for Using
KLEEN KOTE on Concrete Pumping and Belt Trucks
- Mix Ratio 11 to 1 --
For All Surfaces
- Spray the entire truck with KLEEN
KOTE as needed or after every wash to keep your truck looking like new.
- Tips for Use
KOTE, causing the fresh layers of concrete to stick to the
truck. KLEEN KOTE must be applied to all areas of the truck
where concrete was removed.
- Do NOT apply KLEEN
KOTE to windows, as it may cause streaking. You will need to
use window cleaner to remove it.
- DO’s
- Do mix KLEEN KOTE in a
clean container.
- Do be sure to rinse truck of all
chemicals after washing.
- Do wash the truck with water only
when possible. If it is necessary to wash the truck with soap and water
you will need to reapply KLEEN KOTE to the whole truck
again.
- Do apply KLEEN KOTE to
areas of heavy concrete contact after dumping every load.
- Do apply KLEEN KOTE to
under carriage of truck at least once per week.
- Trucks can be cleaned with acid to
remove as much of the hardened concrete as possible before applying
KLEEN KOTE. If you acid wash the truck you must wash the truck with
soap and water before applying KLEEN KOTE. This is done to ensure the
acid residue is removed from the truck.
- Even if the truck is not acid washed
prior to applying KLEEN KOTE, try to wash truck with soap and water
before applying KLEEN KOTE for the first time. This is done to remove
all of the acids and other chemicals that have built up on the trucks
from past cleanings and other applications. Be sure to
rinse all of the soap off of the truck.
- KLEEN KOTE is best applied
with a spray applicator. Apply KLEEN KOTE to sections of the
truck that will accumulate heavier amounts of concrete...let the
product turn from white to clear and it is ready to use.
- On severely sun dried or acid washed

the surface you are treating, it will still work.
- Typical Coverage Rates
- 1 gallon of mixed KLEEN
KOTE will cover approx. 2000 square feet, depending on the
surface type. Spray on for best performance and ease of application.
- Notes
-
IMPORTANT VIBRATION INFORMATION FOR TILT-UP CONCRETE!
- Vibration of concrete is
essential to the proper consolidation of a concrete panel. It is not
only important to the strength of the panel but also to the finish of
the surface. Over vibration or improper use of a vibration device may
cause random spot sticking of the concrete panels to the casting bed,
especially when a reactive bond breaker like KLEEN KOTE is
used. On panels of full thickness a shaft-style vibrator can be used
but should never touch the casting bed or be dragged through the
concrete. With insulated panels a shaft-style vibrator should not be
used on the first 3” base pour; a vibratory screed or vibratory float
should be used.
- We can provide you with
information you need to properly vibrate any job. Proper vibration will
help ensure you are providing your customer with the highest quality
panel available.
- We also have a General Vibration
Facts sheet available that provides additional information regarding
vibration.
- KLEEN
KOTE can NOT be used in most stack casting situations.
Typically, the concrete is not sufficiently cured prior to the next
panel pour. If the concrete is cured for greater than 30 days KLEEN
KOTE may be used.
- In freezing weather, mix product as
needed. Concentrate will not freeze however premix may freeze.
- Many tilt-up projects have
adverse or unusual conditions, if you have any questions regarding the
use of this product please feel free to contact Customer Support by
